RFQ Simulation Parameters

This file is intended to give a quick reference to anybody working on the transfer line from and to the LIS 18+ 100keV RFQ. It contains the matched beam parameters at the RFQ input plane (inside wall of the front-end cover) and the expected beam parameters at the RFQ output plane (inside wall of the end-cover). This file will be periodically updated and accessible from the common disk (G:\home\l\lombarda\lis\beamch.doc is the filename)

BEAM AT THE INPUT OF THE 100 keV/u, lead 18+ RFQ

(matched beam)

for 100 pi mm mrad total unnormalized emittance (NOMINAL CASE):

alpha (x&y) = 0.85

beta (x&y) = 0.037 mm/mrad

i.e.

x = ±2 mm

xp = ±70 mrad

for 200 pi mm mrad total unnormalized emittance :

alpha (x&y) = 0.78

beta (x&y) = 0.035 mm/mrad

i.e.

x = ±2.6 mm

xp = ±100 mrad

BEAM AT THE OUTPUT OF THE 100 keV/u , lead 18+ RFQ

(NOMINAL CASE)

TRANSVERSE PLANES :

X-direction :

alpha = 1.47

beta = 0.113 mm/mrad

emittance = 23. pi mm mrad total unnormalized

Y-direction :

alpha = -1.47

beta = 0.109 mm/mrad

emittance = 24.4 pi mm mrad total unnormalized

LONGITUDINAL PLANE :

alpha = 0.14

beta = 6.34 deg/(keV/u) (at 101.28 MHz.)

emittance = 61 pi deg keV/u total

or equivalently :

alpha = 0.14

beta = 0.03 deg/keV (at 101.28 MHz.)

emittance = 12688 deg keV total (at 101.28 MHz.)

PHYSICAL DIMENSION OF THE BEAM :

x = ±1.6 mm

xp = ±25 mrad

y = ±1.6 mm

yp = ±27 mrad

deltaphi = ±19.5 deg

deltaW= ±3.15 keV/u

BEAM MEASURING LINES AFTER THE RFQ :

 SOUTH HALL SET-UP : 2 quadrupoles of the linac2 type (length 55 mm, bore radius =12 mm K=4.43 A/(T/m) ) plus a 51-deg, 20mm-gap sector magnet

HALL 236 : 2 quadrupoles of the linac3 type (length 149 mm, bore radius = 20 mm,K=4.34 A/(T/m) ) plus a 77-deg, 25mm-gap sector magnet

Follow TRACE runs of the south hall set-up & proposal (to be checked and discussed) for the hall 236
